Reserving My Table

Reserving My Table: "So now the government, in its full mafia glory, has made an offer industry cannot refuse. Either the private sector voluntarily puts quotas for backward classes in place or the government will enact legislation which will force them to do the same thing. Some industry bigwigs had put up a proposal to train backward classes at company cost in order to make them competitive in the job market----but the government is not concerned about training, it wants their vote banks to have jobs---training and competency be damned. In a way, extension of reservations to private sectors was inevitable ----after all Ram Vilas Paswan's son may have been satisfied with a job in SAIL or ONGC but his grandson considers governmental jobs passe. He wants to work at Infosys and Wipro and its upto Ram Vilas Paswan to ensure that his grandson has the same sinecure that his son held. The supporters of reservation (an ovewhelming majority of whom stand to gain from it) base their arguments on two principal premises. 1. For 5000 years, there has been total discrimination against Dalits. So now for another 5000 years, there should be 'social justice' based on the injustices of the past as a means for a historical balancing of equations. 2. A higher class official is likely to discriminate against a lower-caste candidate because he is assumed to be incompetent by virtue of his birth."

Police officers booked for 1988 killing

Police officers booked for 1988 killing: "More than seventeen years after police officers killed Satnam Singh of Mohadian village, the Punjab police finally registered a case against the accused officers. The police officers allegedly killed Satnam Singh in a fake encounter on August 9, 1988. The move by the Punjab police to register the case only occurred after the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered them to do so. The court had directed the Fatehgarh Sahib SSP in December last to register a criminal case for the alleged offence and to hand over the investigation of the case to an officer, not below the rank of IPS officer. The court further  directed the police to complete the investigation quickly, as Satnam Singh was killed in 1988.   A Judicial Blackout: Judicial Impunity for Disappearances in Punjab, India examines similar cases in which the judiciary ignored police abuses such as faked encounters and disappearances. By dismissing petitions based on delays or evidence manipulated by police, the courts reinforced impunity for police. "

Adlabs Wins Chandigarh FM Frequencies @ Rs. 15 Crore!

Adlabs Wins Chandigarh FM Frequencies @ Rs. 15 Crore!: "Incredible as it sounds, Adlabs bid a whopping Rs. 15 crores for Chandigarh’s FM frequencies and they won. The company is backed by Anil ‘Reliance’ Ambani (he bought it last year). The second bid for Chandigarh was from Bhaskar Group (the publishers of Dainik Bhaskar) for Rs. 10 crores. Apparently Chandigarh got the highest bid among the 21 cities for whom the bids were invited. Chandigarh lacks a good radio station. We only have two: Local AIR and the limited duration Kasauli’s retransmission of AIR Delhi’s FM station. This is underlined by Rajesh Sawhney (President, Reliance Entertainment): We have managed to get the key cities of Punjab, including Chandigarh. These markets are under-served by radio and we see great advertising potential here, especially from local advertisers. So with Adlabs entry, things are finally looking up and maybe in another decade or so, we’ll have a healthy competition between different radio stations here. " ..
